Fantastic Performances at National Young Athletes Road Relays and Merseyside Schools Cross Country League
Our U17 girls A team were a fantastic 6th place in the National Young Athletes Road Relays at Sutton Park on Saturday 7th October.
Our U17 men’s team also came a credible 19th place. Full results can be found here https://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2017/.
Many of our juniors were out at the Merseyside School’s Cross Country League and our athletes took the top spot in 3 out of 4 boys races and all 3 girls races, with many more Wirral athletes featuring high up. Pam and Joe Green report-
Many members of Wirral AC were involved in the first meeting of the Merseyside schools league last Saturday ( organised by Pam & Joe Green). All the winners in the boys races were from Wirral AC running for their schools.
Jack Bernham (Yr7 Calday), Will Sutcliffe (Yr8 Calday), Dan Hayes (Yr9 Calday), Ceiran English (Yr11 Calday) and Joe Wigfield (senior St.Anselm’s) led the way with the St.Anselm’s teams winning four of the five age groups.
Jenny Ryan (Weatherhead) won the Year 7 girls age group with Gabby Phelan (Upton) coming second and Anna Fraser (WirralGS) showing very good form coming home in fourth place just 9 seconds behind the winner. Ellen Mary Kearney (Upton) won the Years 8&9 race supported by Scarlet Liddy 6th and Emma Fildes 11th to secure a team victory.
Isobel Hodder (WGS) was the clear winner of the Open age group but will have tougher competition in the next race when the members of our successful relay team return. Rachel Hurst (BHSA) 9th had a really competitive race against more senior runners from Liverpool schools.
Schools or individuals wishing to take part in future races should contact Joe Green email@example.com for further details.
A big thank you to Ronan Kearney, results; Nick Lindsay, marshal and Gill & Joe Fallon on the finish.
We are always delighted to have the support of LPS , Wally Bridson and his team for laying out the course.
Some of our seniors were out on the road this weekend. Paula Smith completed the Kirby Milers 10 mile road race, Sarah Mc Donnell was out at the Bangor Half Marathon and Uyai Ikpatt ran the Chester Marathon. Well done ladies! I’m guessing there were others in the Chester Marathon but they are a bit shy….I believe Caz Hall paced 3.45.
