Ladies winter points league
The winter cross country and road running season is well under way and, to make things a little bit more exciting, we have devised a “Winter Points League”.
Here’s how it works, you get points if you compete for the club in the Manchester Area Cross Country League, the Borders League, and any of the championship cross country races (Merseyside, Northerns, English National). The higher you score for the team, the more points you get. Oh, and you have to be a lady!
If you are the first person home, you will get 12 points, the next person will get 11, then 10 and so on. So you pretty much just need to turn up and run and you will get some points.
We will also be introducing some bonus points e.g. for bringing cakes, supporting the team etc. (we may come up with some more amusing ideas) so there is a chance for everybody to get points.
At the end of this season we will split the points table into 2 divisions to give the improving athletes more of a chance to win something next season and to encourage everybody to take part.
So, how is the table looking at the beginning of February? What are the scores on the doors? Who has been running their socks off and who has been putting their feet up?
Well, Sarah is out in front but being chased hard by Anne. Both have run pretty much every race just missing one chance to score points. Penny’s solid performances have put her ‘in the running’ but missing a weekend with a MACCL and Border’s League meant that she lost her leading position. Caz and Kelly have doggedly turned up for both cross country and road races and that leaves them strongly in the top half of the table with Hannah’s excellent performances at the Border’s League putting her in with a shout. When we add in points for cakes and support then we should see Caroline B also moving up the table a bit.
There’s plenty to fight for yet and with Sarah K being Welsh and not running in the English National (we think she just can’t face the mud at Parliament Hill) it is far from a one horse race and there’s everything to play for.
|Name||MACCL 1||MACCL 2||MACCL 3||MACCL 4||BL 1||BL 2||BL 3||County||Northern||Total|
We hope you enjoy the league and if you can think of ways of making it more fun then let Maggie or Anne know. Thanks.
