Wirral Athletes prominent in the Merseyside School’s Cross Country

Wirral AC athletes were prominent in the second set of races for the Merseyside Schools league at Calderstones Park last Saturday. Katie Thompson won the girls open age race with Catherine Gallagher a close second. Ellen Mary Kearney was second in the race for year 8 and 9 girls with Scarlett Liddy continuing  her run of good form in third. The year 7 race was won by Gabby Phelan who has only taken up the sport this season.
In the boys events Joe Wigfield and Tom Spence shared first place for the whole of the senior race with Joe asserting his authority at the finishing line. Louis and Finan Johnston led home a year 10 and 11 field dominated by St Anselms runners many of whom are club members. Dan Hayes and Will Sutcliffe running for Calday won their respective year 9 and 8 races and Aodhan Corr was second in the year 7 event.
Wirral schools are currently top of the league in six of the eight age groups.
